Phobjikha Valley, at 3000meters is in one of the few glacier valleys in Bhutan. It is the chosen home of the rare black–necked cranes which migrate here in winter from the Tibetan Plateau. The valley of Gangtey is one of the most beautiful places in Bhutan and the Gangtey Gompa monastery is the only Nyingmapa monastery on the western side of the Black mountains. This moderate trek passes through the village of Gogona and Khotokha, through meadows and fields, then forest of juniper, magnolia and rhododendrons. One of the finest low level treks in Bhutan.

Trip Itinerary:

Day 01: ARRIVABLE PARO FROM BANGKOK / KATHMANDU/ DELHI
W elcome by our guide at airport , transfer to hotel. visit paro. overnight at paro.

Day 02: DAY EXCURSION TO TAKTSANG MONASTRY.
Morning, hike to the famous Taktsang the Tiger’s Nest. This magical monastery clings to vertical granite cliff 3000 m. above the valley floor. . Riding horses can be arranged to go up.optional.
Afternoon, visit the 7th century Kiychu monastery, the National Museum and Paro Dzong. O/n hotel.

Day 03: PARO – JELEDZONG (TREK BEGINS)
Distance is 6-7 km. – Altitude 8500 ft. The trek trail is rather gradual till the weather is clear the Paro Valley can be seen with the snow-capped mountains. O/n camp.

Day 04: JELEDZONG – JANGCHULAKHA
Distance – 10 km. Altitude – 9500 ft. The trek begins an hour & a half climb and ascends gradually up. The trail takes you through a thick alpine forest and rhododendrons trees. You may see Yaks around the campsite. O/n camp.

Day 05: JANGCHULAKHA – JIMILANGTSO
Distance – 11 km. Altitude – 11000 ft. The trail follows the ridge and on a clear day the views of the mountains and the valley are beautiful. The camp is close to the Lake of Jimilangtso. These lakes are known for their giant sized trout. O/n camp.

Day 06: JIMILANGTSO – SIMKOT
Distance – 11 km. Alt. – 11500 ft. The trail takes you through dwarf Rhododendron trees and then pass by the lake of Janetso. Today you may come across some Yak Herders camp and you can really have a look as how these people live. Camp is close to Simkota Lake filled with trout.

Day 07: SIMKOTA – PHAJODING
Distance – 10 km. Alt. – 9500 ft. Today you begin with a gradual climb and if the weather permits you will have a beautiful views of Mt. Gangkar Punsum the highest in Bhutan and also other Himalayan Mountains. The slow descends will reach you at Phajoding cafeteria. O/n cafeteria or camp.

Day 08: PHAJODING – THIMPHU.
Distance – 7-8 km. Alt. – 8050 ft. The trek to Thimphu is all the way down through a forested area of mostly Blue Pine. Taking leisurely you will reach in about 3 hours. O/n hotel.

Day 09: THIMPHU – SIGHTSEEING
Morning, visit the School of Traditional Arts & Crafts (National Institute of Zorig Chusum) .A further drive towards the BBS Tower site will provide a bird’s eye view of the capital city. In the afternoon, you can take a mountain bike ride towards Tango and Cherry meditation centers for more nature and cultural sightseeing.

Day 10: THIMPHU – GANGTEY/PHOBJIKHA
After breakfast hotel, drive leisurely towards Gangtey and Phobjikha valley. Phobjikha valley has been declared as the first eco-tourism destination of Bhutan by the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN). The valley falls under the Black Mountain Natural Park. Phobjikha valley is the winter home to rare and endangered black necked cranes (grus nigricllis) which migrate in large folks to Bhutan from Tibet & Sikang, Yunnan and Tonkin in eastern China by late November. For centuries the cranes have captured the human imagination with their intelligence, poise, sociality, beauty and freedom, which have given rise to several myths, legends, folktales and songs. In 2008 there were about 250 cranes and the numbers vary each year. By mid February, the cranes fly back across the Himalayas to their summer homes in Tibet and China. Besides cranes, there are lot’s of other wild animals in the surrounding valleys like wild boar, barking deer, Himalayan black bear, red fox, leopard and many more.
Visit the Nature Education center and talk to the experts there. Visit the cranes roosting area. Visit the carpet factory and the Sacred Gangtey Monastery which dominates the valley. Overnight Gangtey at Hotel.

Day 11: GANGTEY – TRONGSA
The journey to the Central Bhutan begins today. The drive to Trongsa takes approximately 3 – 4 hrs.. It takes you across across Pelela Pass (3300 m.). The famous Chendiji Chorten is situated at the base of the hills. You can see the realy Bhutanese settlements along these routes. Overnight Trongsa at Yangkhil Resort.

Day 12: TRONGSA – BUMTHANG
Morning, visit Trongsa Dzong and the Fort Museum (Ta Dzong). Afternoon, transfer to Bumthang. Drive to Bumthang takes 2-3 hrs. Tales of great Guru Padmasambhava dominates this holy valley. From the view point you can see the Jakar Dzong “The Castle of White Bird”. Check in at Hotel Gongkhar and have lunch. After lunch, time at leisure. Overnight Bumthang

Day 13: BUMTHANG
Full day sightseeing in and around this holy valley. This is one of the great places in Bhutan to look around by riding a Mountain Bike. Overnight Bumthang.

Day 14: BUMTHANG – WANGDI
Start your journey back towards Western Bhutan with sightseeing stops en-route. Overnight Wangdi at Hotel Dragon Nest

Day 15: WANGDI – PARO
This morning, you can do half day white water rafting. Afternoon, visit Punakha Dzong and do some local sightseeing. Late afternoon, transfer to Paro. Overnight Paro at Hotel Holiday Home

Day 16: DEPARTURE FROM PARO – DELHI / BANGKOK/ KATHMANDU
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Paro Airport .
